HOW TO IMPROVE GAS MILEAGE BY NOT USING ANY
The First Fuel Friendly Fundamental: Your car uses the least amount of gas when it's parked, with the engine off, of course.
Obvious?
Few have discovered the art of how to improve gas mileage by not using any. Look around your neighborhood and you'll see people leave, come home, leave, come home, leave, etc. And this happens in the space of an afternoon.
You may be doing the same thing (tsk, tsk). A lot of people do.

Planning is a great way to improve the fuel economy of your car. Planning can be as simple as keeping a list of errands on your refrigerator door. In fact, it is that simple.
Keep the list posted in any convenient place and use it. Plan one or two errand days a week. Plan them when you already have to be out for another occasion. Okay, sometimes you get called out on unplanned errands; that's often a good time to take your list with you and just change your errand day.
In addition to that note pad you have three more planning tools, your computer, your phone, and the yellow pages. You save both time and gas when you use the yellow pages and your phone to call and ask about availability and price of an item you're after.
E Shopping in another excellent way to save gas if you're hooked up on the internet (which you obviously are because you're reading this). You can take shopping a step further with your computer and do most of your ordering on line.
Most name brand stores offer free shipping and sometimes better prices and selection than you can find at the mall. When you find those bargains you save on price, you save on shipping, and you keep that car parked consuming zero gas. That's perfect fuel economy. Win, win, win.
By now, the notion of discovering how to improve gas mileage by not using any should be making sense. And it really is easy.
Planning the errands you have to run saves gas twice. You save because you eliminate the wasted miles running back and forth to and from your house. You also save because your engine stays warmer when you do go. Cold engines use more gas than engines that are already warmed up, a lot more.
While you're planning your outings you might want to consider car pooling. It is a guaranteed gas saver. Car pooling to and from work, though, often isn't practical, but you may want to consider car pooling with friends, family, and neighbors to do errands, or go to the mall, or grocery shopping. That kind of car pooling can turn mundane chores into social events. And all it takes is a little planning.
One last thought on planning. Next time you move, try to move closer to work. Living close to work may be the single biggest gas saver. The closer you live to work, the less time you spend burning up gas; and as a bonus, the more time you have to live your life outside of work.
It was all made possible because you discovered how to improve gas mileage by not using any.
